'The Boathouse'
Documentary
A short film made over several years about The Boathouse Project, Guildford, Surrey, UK.
About The Boathouse & Soulspace
The Boathouse, Guildford, a new venue on the River Wey, softly opened its doors in Summer 2023, introducing Soulspace, an independent members club, coworking space, event hire, and community and The Boathouse Cafe. With a rowing boat hire set to follow in 2024.
This new venue and family business, aims to provide a place to work, gather, and grow, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
Directors, Jessica and Charlotte Meins say,
“Reaching the opening of The Boathouse, Guildford is an exciting moment. Inside we have created Soulspace, an offering that caters to the new ways we live and work, and The Boathouse Cafe, an independent restaurant and both are inspired by the natural rhythms and beauty of this astonishing spot on the riverside.
We believe that hybrid spaces where people can work, gather and grow in their local area are both a force for the future and a nod to the past and a place where we can create an inspiring community outside of the traditional office or leisure space.
As a member of the community, The Boathouse will also work with local charities including halow project and community groups to share resources. We also can’t wait to (hopefully) bring back the rowing boat hire in 2024.
We look forward to seeing the building full and bustling.”
Soulspace, a place to go to work, gather and grow.
Soulspace, the concept that became the heart of The Boathouse idea, brings together design-led spaces for work, growth, and gathering. A members’ club with a community-focus, Soulspace provides coworking space, meeting rooms, and event spaces catering to a range of entrepreneurs, freelancers, individuals, and businesses and offer a choice of memberships from a ‘Resident’ desk to call your own to a ‘Floating’ Membership which offer more flexible options.
Soulspace welcomes anyone who shares their vision and values and aims to create a purpose-driven community hub that counteracts the often-disconnected nature of the modern hybrid workplace in a beautiful space with warm and nurturing hospitality-type service and quality resources.

The Boathouse Cafe
Adding to the appeal of the building is The Boathouse Cafe. With it riverside views and terrace, the independent cafe restaurant is open to the public, from morning to night and provides a perfect backdrop for meeting friends, enjoying morning coffees, nourishing lunches, and celebratory dinners.
The Boathouse Cafe’s food offering led by Head Chef, Dean Williams is centred around seasonal ingredients, British fare with a twist, chef's specials, and a plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. The team are offering selections of products from excellent local suppliers and a carefully curated wine list by GM Yann Roberts, including quality options by-the-glass.
The Boathouse Cafe aspires to become a destination restaurant and local favourite, open to all and a place people return to again and again.

Boat Hire Return
Looking ahead, The Boathouse has plans to reintroduce boat hire in 2024, operating as a social enterprise to benefit local charities and the community. This initiative aims to build upon the site's historical significance and further strengthen The Boathouse's commitment to the area.
The opening of The Boathouse marks an exciting new chapter for Guildford and its community. By combining beautiful members' workspace, event space hire, a riverside cafe restaurant, and future boat hire, The Boathouse is poised to become a vibrant hub that the family hopes – like the river - will create a positive ripple in the area.
